Run for Fun begins tomorrow at 8:00 am. Volunteers are needed.

The Golf Squad club has a few openings left for students. Classes begin August 12 and will be after school on Tuesdays. To register go to their website at http://golfsquad.com/programs/california/sd/wolf-canyon

Tuesday, August 5 at 9:00 am in room 703, PTA will be discussing and planning Wolf Canyon’s first Camp-out, which will be held on September 12 in conjunction with Family Movie Night. Parent input is needed.

Parents of students in grades 4-6 may preview the AGE – Adolescent Growth Education program at the Chula Vista Elementary School District office on Wednesday, August 6 at 6:00 pm.

The Birthday Book Club is back. Commemorate your child’s birthday by donating $10 or more for the purchase of a hardback book for the Wolf Canyon Library. For more information contact Wendy Moffett, the school librarian.

Remember, when you open a Mission Federal checking account Wolf Canyon will receive a $25 donation. If we are one of the top 5 schools to do this, we get a $500 bonus!

Thursday, August 7 at 3:30 pm there will be a Safety Committee Meeting. Everyone is welcome to participate. Friday, August 8 at 2:00 pm there will be a Parent Patrol meeting for parents interested in volunteering to support our families during drop off and pick up.

Monday, August 11 at 3:30 pm there will be an information meeting for all parents interested in serving on our School Site Council. Curriculum Night is August 14 starting at 5:30 pm in the school auditorium. There will be 2 sessions to accommodate families with more than one child: Session 1 6:15 pm and Session 2 7:15 pm.

The Wolf Canyon Rummage Sale is Saturday, August 16 from 7:00 am to 11:00 am. If you are interested in purchasing a space to sell your items, you may contact the school office tomorrow between 8:15 am and 9:30 am and again on Thursday from 2:15 pm – 3:30 pm and a PTA board member will assist you.

Tuesday, July 29 beginning at 9:00 am to 10:00 am there will be a volunteer in-service in the school auditorium for anyone who is interested in volunteering at Wolf Canyon. For the safety of everyone, visitors or volunteers will not allowed on campus during the school day until Monday, August 4.

Run for Fun will begin at 8:00 am starting August 4. Students run or walk the track each morning to stay fit and earn prizes. Parent volunteers are needed for this program. Contact the school office for more information.

Starting this week after school only weather permitting, Robeks will be selling smoothies each Thursday for $3.00 and PTA will be selling popsicles each Friday for $2.00. Both are fundraisers for our school.

In order for your child to participate in the FREE Homework help program beginning in October, parents must be a PTA member.

Just a few Reminders for everyone’s safety, all students should report directly to the blacktop each morning. Drive carefully, drop off and pick up students only in the front of the school and not the bus loop, use the crosswalks at all times and be patient. THINK SAFETY FIRST.

Welcome Back!

Tuesday, July 22, 2014 beginning at 5:30 pm join other families on the field for a picnic then at 6:00 pm meet your child’s teacher for the 2014 – 2015 school year. PTA members will be on hand with membership info, fundraisers and volunteer opportunities. Popsicles will be available for purchase as a treat. After school clubs will be on hand for sign up, school spirit wear will be on sale and free/reduced lunch applications will be available. Click the link for more information. The First Day of School starts at 8:45 am on Wednesday, July 23, 2014 and is a minimum day – students in grades 1-6 are dismissed at 1:45 pm. Students should report directly to their classrooms for the first day. All kindergarten students and their parents will meet at 9:00 am for a Kindergarten Orientation in the school auditorium. Kindergarteners are dismissed to go home after the orientation – 11:00 am. No changes will be made to class assignments in the first 3 weeks of school. If you would like to request a classroom change after that you may submit your request in writing with rationale as to why you are requesting a change. Changes will be considered only if space is available. Remember to drive carefully, drop off and pick up students only in the front of the school and not the bus loop, be patient and think safety first.

The Volunteer In-service will be Tuesday, July 29 at 9:00 am – 10:00 am in the school auditorium for anyone who is interested in volunteering at Wolf Canyon. For the safety of everyone, no visitors or volunteers are allowed on campus during the school day for the first 2 weeks of school. Visitors and Volunteers may begin Monday, August 4.

Smoothie Thursdays are back and will begin on July 31 after school.

Friday, June 13 is the last day the school office will be open. The school office will reopen for the 2014 – 2015 school year on Monday, July 14, 2014.

Meet the Teacher Night is Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at 6:00 pm at Wolf Canyon Elementary. Families can bring a picnic dinner on the field beginning at 5:30 pm and teachers will be on hand at 6:00 pm.

Kindergarten Orientation for all incoming kindergarteners and their families is on Wednesday, July 23 9:00 am – 11:00 am. Kindergarteners are dismissed to go home after the orientation.

First Day of School is on Wednesday, July 23, 2014 from 8:45 am – 1:45 pm (this is a minimum day).

A Volunteer In-service is on Tuesday, July 29 at 9:00 am – 10:00 am in the school auditorium for anyone who is interested in volunteering at Wolf Canyon.

Thank you to everyone that made our Chalkwalk a great success. A special shout out to Rej Tamares for an outstanding job coordinating this event.

Thank you to our PTA for another great school year. A special shout to Jessica Speer for providing amazing leadership over the last 2 years as the PTA president.

Tuesday, June 3 and Wednesday, June 4 students will have the opportunity to leave their mark on Wolf Canyon and decorate a commemorative tile to be displayed in the school courtyard. There are a limited number of tiles available for folks who did not pre-order and the cost is $20 cash only.

Tuesday, June 3 at 6:00 pm please join us for our annual Volunteer Appreciation Tea so that we may acknowledge all of our wonderful volunteers at Wolf Canyon Elementary. At 8:00 pm we will have a star gazing event on our blacktop with high powered telescopes and a chance to look for Jupiter, Mars and many other stars.

Thursday, June 5 is our All School Picnic. Parents and family members are invited to have a BBQ lunch picnic style at Wolf Canyon during their child’s lunch time. The cost of the lunch is $3.00. Bring your lawn chairs and sunscreen. Lunch schedule is as follows: Kinder – 10:30 am, 1st – 11:15 am, 2nd – 11:30 am, 3rd – 11:45 am, 4th – 12:00 pm, 5th – 12:15 pm and 6th – 12:30 pm. Lunch/recess is 45 minutes.

Thursday, June 5 yearbooks will be distributed and students will have the opportunity throughout the day to have their yearbooks signed. We have 10 extra yearbooks available for $50 cash only. First come, first serve.

Remember to return all library books, pay any outstanding cafeteria bills and claim lost items in the lost and found tub in the back to the school auditorium. All unclaimed lost and found items will be given to charity after 4:00 pm Friday, June 6.

Tuesday, May 27 through the 30 is Staff Appreciation Week at Wolf Canyon Elementary. We will celebrate the “Day of the Teacher” on Wednesday, May 28 with some very special activities. Please consider showing your appreciation for the many other folks that serve our children, bus drivers, cafeteria workers, office personnel, custodians, aides, special education specialist, etc.

Wednesday, May 28 at 6:30 pm the Wolf Canyon GLEE Club will perform highlights from the musical CATS in the school auditorium. Admission is free.

Thursday, May 29 is our annual Chalkwalk.

Friday, May 30 is our last day to Run for Fun.

Leave your art and your mark! Have your child design his/her own commemorative tile to be displayed in the school courtyard. What a beautiful Wolf Canyon legacy to leave behind. Students will paint tiles on June 3 and 4 during school hours. Cost is $15 for one tile; $10 for each additional tile – per family. Please complete and return the order form no later than Friday, May 30. All proceeds will support hiring a full time Music Teacher. PTA thanks you for your support.

Monday, May 5 at 9:00 am and Tuesday, May 6 at 3:15 pm in the school auditorium there will be a volunteer in-service for the Chalkwalk scheduled for Thursday, May 29 from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm. All volunteers are encouraged to attend one of the in-services.

Do you want to have your child leave their mark at Wolf Canyon? PTA will be setting up times for your children to paint a tile to be added to the collection in our courtyard. More information to follow in the next few weeks. All profits will help support efforts for the full time music teacher for next year.
