K-Kids is sponsoring a community service project to help support homeless teens in San Diego by collecting travel size soaps, shampoos, deodorants, mouthwash and toothpaste for the Stand Up for Kids program. The deadline for accepting donations has been extended through May 27.

BINGO Night is on Friday, May 10th at 6:00 pm. Tickets are going fast. Don’t miss out. Look for the PTA table after school to get your tickets.

A special thank you to everyone who showed their love and support for the Riggs family. In one week, almost $7,000 was raised to support baby Leo. A special thanks to Lynnette Gonzalez, Kate Snyder, James Iwanski and Jessica Speers and our amazing PTA for organizing everything that was done to show our love and care.

Congratulations to Ms. Hasley and Ms. Valentine’s classes for collecting the most Boxtops for Education.

Tickets are $12.00 and there will be a Free Tee Shirt give away while supplies last. Drop of your checks to the school office no later than May 1st. Friday, April 19 from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm please join us in a very special fundaiser to support Mr. Riggs and his family and the loss of their newly born son Leo. We want to honor Baby Leo by spending a day with our own families in an afternoon of movies, sports, games and fun. InflataWorld will also have there incredible bouncies for an, “All you can jump” event. We are asking for a donation of $10.00 per family to participate. The bouncies are an additional cost of $10.00 per child. If you buy your bracelet to jump during the pre-sales before and after school this week you will not need to pay the $10.00 donation to participate. All money raised will be donated to the Riggs family. If you are not able to attend but would like to make a donation on behalf of the family you may make checks payable to Zachary and Angela Riggs. Cash donations are also accepted.

Tuesday, April 16 at 7:00 pm is our PTA General meeting in the school auditorium. Please come out and support our school! Childcare is available.

Look for the flier coming home this week, create your own design and if your design is selected it will be on sale for all students to purchase and you win one for free! We now have a California School Parent Survey available on our school website to tell us how we are doing. The results of this survey will be used to guide our school district concerning school health and safety, academic achievement and our overall school programs. A special “Shout Out” to the girls basketball team – the Lady Timberwolves – are the district champions for the 2nd year in a row. Both seasons were undefeated. Way to GO!

On Wednesday, April 10th there will be a PTA organizational meeting for all families planning on attending Camarena Elementary School. The meeting will be held in the Wolf Canyon Elementary auditorium and starts at 6:00 pm. The PTA board will be selected and bylaws approved.

Boxtops for Education are now being collected through April 19. Please send in your boxtops as this is a great way to earn PE equipment and other supplies for our school.

School resumes on Tuesday, April 2 and is not a minimum day. School begins promptly at 8:45 am.

K-Kids is sponsoring a community service project to help support homeless teens in San Diego by collecting travel size soaps, shampoos, deodorants, mouthwash and toothpaste for the Stand Up for Kids program. Please collect these items for the month of April. We will be collecting all donations for this project through April 29.

Bricks 4 Kidz is back. Beginning April 9th through May 14th students in grades 1-3 can sign up for after school classes that focus on creating motorized machines using legos. The Last Day for the Bookfair is tomorrow Monday, March 11. The Bookfair will be opened from 8:15am – 3:00pm.

There will be No Homework Help offered after school this week. Homework Help will resume April 4.

Tuesday, March 12 is the PTA General Board Meeting at 7:00pm. The officers for next school year will be announced.

Yearbooks are still available to order for $45.00 and all orders must be received by the school office no later than 4:00pm on Friday, March 15. No extra yearbooks will be ordered or available after March 15.

Friday is Wolf Day! Dress like your best Wolf and your picture could wind up in the school yearbook.

It’s time once again to turn in those Box Tops for Education. Please be sure to check that the dates on the Box Tops have not expired.

Bricks for Kids will resume next quarter beginning on Tuesday, April 9th. This is an after school club offered on Tuesdays only for a fee. Space is limited to 30 students. Bricks for Kids is offered to all students in grades 1 -3 and will run for 6 weeks.

A TB Clinic will be offered this week at Discovery Elementary March 12 and March 14 from 8:30am – 11:00am. This clinic is free to all folks who want to become a volunteer or who are currently volunteering and their TB clearance is expiring.

K-Kids will be collecting travel size toiletries for homeless teens as part of an outreach program called “Stand up for Kids”. If you have travel size shampoos, toothpaste, soaps, deodorants, mouthwash, etc. All donations should be sent to your child’s classroom teachers. We will begin collecting donations now through April 29.

Just a reminder that we are on Minimum Day schedule every day this week. Students in Kindergarten will be dismissed at 1:30pm each day this week and all other students will be dismissed at 1:45pm.

The last day for the 3rd quarter is this Friday, March 15. There is NO SCHOOL from March 18 – April 1. The 4th quarter will begin on Tuesday, April 2 and is a regular schedule day.

Congratulations to Kristian Acruz for taking 2nd place in the District Speech Competition.

Monday – School Site Council meets to discuss our school budget and plan for student achievement at 3:30pm in room 402.

Tuesday – The 4th, 5th and 6th grade students will present a Musical Showcase of the things they have learned this year in music classes. Students in 6th grade will perform from 6:00 – 6:30, 4th grade from 6:30 – 7:00 and 5th grade from 7:00 to 7:30.

Due to the current weather forecast the Astronomony Night scheduled for Wednesday, March 6 has been postponed.

Friday – We have our quarterly Awards Assemblies – K-2 at 9:00am and 3-6 10:15am. Both assemblies are approximately 45 minutes.

The Scholastics Book Fair is back! The Bookfair will begin March 6 in the school library through March 13. The Bookfair will not be open on March 12 due to state polling. Books are a wonderful gift to support your child’s education and a great way to support our school.

Parent Conferences begin this Thursday, March 6 through March 14. Starting March 6 through March 15 we will be on the Minimum Day dismissal schedule – 1:30 dismissal for kindergarten and 1:45 for all other students. March 15 is the last day of the 3rd quarter. School will resume on Tuesday, April 2 and this is not a minimum day.

Yearbook “Shout Outs” are a wonderful way to let someone know how special they are. Shout Outs will be printed in the yearbook. To buy a Shout Out, clearly print your message on a 3 X 5 index card and write “Yearbook Shout Out” across the top. You may have more than one Shout Out card, however, each Shout Out message is $1.00. Please attach your cash to the index cards and return to the school office. We will accept Shout Outs February 25 – March 15 only!

Thanks to everyone who supported the Pennies for Pasta campaign Our K-Kids raised over $700 in spare change to support those suffering from Leukemia or Lymphoma.

Remember to complete and submit a Zone Transfer application if you are currently zoned for Camarena Elementary and are interested in returning to Wolf Canyon. Space is limited.

TB Clinics are being offered at Discovery Elementary School 8:30am – 11:00am on March 12 and read on March 14. If you need to get your TB clearance to volunteer these clinics are offered free of charge. TB clearance is good for 4 years.

Wednesday – Kindergarten registration begins and enrollment (registration) for All New Students not currently enrolled in the Chula Vista Elementary School District. Registration for Wolf Canyon and Camarena Elementary School will begin at 8:00am in the Wolf Canyon School auditorium. For students who are currently enrolled in a Chula Vista Elementary School District school you do not need to enroll or register your child. However, if you wish to attend a school other than your home school you will need to complete a Zone Transfer application. Families who are zoned to attend Camarena Elementary and wish to stay at Wolf Canyon will need to complete a Zone Transfer application. Please note transportation is not provided for Zone Transfers. Zone Transfer applications will be accepted based on space availability and date stamped to prioritize the order applications are received. All Zone Transfer applications will be available beginning Wednesday, February 27.

Friday – One of our very own parents, Mrs. Katarzyna Lappin, is a local artist whose book “Katarzyna Lappin Paintings of Chula Vista”, have been featured in the Chula Vista South Branch Public Library. One of her paintings, which was graciously donated, hangs in our school library. Mrs. Lappin will be on hand in the school library from 1:30 pm – 2:30 pm for a book signing. The school will receive 20% on all proceeds from the sales of these books.

Yearbooks presales end this Thursday, February 28. Please submit your payment in the Yearbook order envelope that was previously sent home. Presale cost is $35.00. If you pay by check, please make your check payable to Wolf Canyon School. Any remaining yearbooks purchased after February 28, 2013 will be $45.00.
