Due to ongoing safety and air quality concerns caused by the Border 2 Fire, Salt Creek, Enrique S. Camarena, Wolf Canyon, Olympic View, Liberty, Eastlake, Thurgood Marshall, and Arroyo Vista will be closed today, Friday, January 24, 2025. All other Chula Vista Elementary School District schools will remain open today.
To prioritize everyone’s health and safety, all students will follow a rainy day schedule due to poor air quality. Recess, lunch, and other planned outdoor activities will take place indoors. If you have specific health concerns regarding your child, please contact your school directly for support.
We recognize that the fire may have caused feelings of fear or anxiety for some of our students and staff. Please know that school staff is available to provide reassurance and help students feel safe.
The Chula Vista Elementary School District will continue to closely monitor the situation and share updates as needed. The safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our top priority. If you have any additional questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to reach out to your school site.
Arriving to school on time has a positive impact on learning.
This week, we are averaging 50 students tardy per day!!! The school day begins at 8:45a. When the bell rings, learning begins! Students who arrive after 8:45a are marked tardy. Let’s work together to start the day off right and get to school on time!
Why is being on time to school important?
Research indicates that arriving to school on time is strongly linked to improved academic performance, better attendance, reduced tardiness, increased alertness in class, and even positive impacts on mental health.
Being late to school can negatively impact a student’s academic performance by causing them to miss important information at the beginning of class, disrupt the learning flow for other students, and potentially lead to lower grades and a decreased likelihood of graduation, especially if tardiness becomes a regular habit; it can also signal a lack of responsibility and time management skills, which could affect future career opportunities.
What can you do?
To ensure your child arrives at school on time, establish a consistent morning routine, plan outfits and pack backpacks the night before, set multiple alarms, designate responsibilities for your child, and consider meal prepping to save time in the mornings; always factor in extra time for unexpected delays and communicate with your child about the importance of punctuality.

Character Trait for January: FOCUS.
Today, we celebrate and honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. It is both an honor and a responsibility to reflect on the profound impact of a visionary leader who dedicated his life to a pursuit of justice and equality that transcends generations. Dr. King’s dream was deeply rooted in the belief that every individual, regardless of race or background, should be granted the same opportunities, rights, and respect. He fought tirelessly and peacefully for civil rights, inspired countless others to join the Civil Rights Movement, and made significant strides towards a more inclusive and equitable society. In celebrating this MLK Day, let us strive to counter racism and discrimination by treating every person we encounter with kindness, dignity, and empathy.

From light shows to doves magically transforming into a huge snake, all of our students at Wolf Canyon today saw the impossible become possible in Magic Ian’s amazing performances! A huge shout out to Magic Ian and our awesome PTA for sponsoring this memorable event for Wolf Canyon students!
As we prepare to return to school for quarter 3, we wanted to share some important visitor and safety measures that will go into effect on Tuesday, January 14, 2025. These changes are happening at Wolf Canyon and across CVESD to keep our school campuses more secure. These changes will be in effect on school days from “bell-to-bell”, meaning 8:45am-3:15pm. Our goal is to sustain a welcoming environment, while ensuring the safety of all our students and staff during school hours.
Key Updates:
After the morning bell rings at 8:45am, families will need to make their way towards the exit. All individuals on campus after 8:45am must be authorized and checked in with the office with valid state-issued ID. For Friday Blacktop assemblies, families will exit campus after the assembly.
Parents and caregivers will not be allowed to go directly to classrooms to pick up students for early dismissals. Please plan accordingly, to allow adequate time to pick your student up. In addition to this, the gates will no longer be opened prior to 3:15pm for those picking up at dismissal.
Authorized visitors will be required to sign in through the Raptor system in the main office with a valid state-issued ID. Visitors must wear a sticker or badge showing they have registered in front office. Unauthorized visitors will be directed towards the main office by staff.
We appreciate your understanding as Wolf Canyon and our school district work towards keeping our school safe.
Just a friendly reminder that students return to school, Tuesday, 1/14, and it will be a Minimum Day dismissal.
TK will dismiss at 1:25pm, Kinder will dismiss at 1:30pm and 1st through 6th will dismiss at 1:45pm. Please make appropriate transportation and child care arrangements.
