Back to School Night is August 16th!

Hello Wolf Canyon Families,

You are cordially invited to our Wolf Canyon Back to School Night.  We are beyond excited to welcome families on the evening of the 16th!

Parents and guardians, this night is specially designed for you as we will cover the curriculum that students will see throughout the year.  We respectfully ask that only parents attend, but also understand that child care can be difficult.  If you are unable to have the kids stay home, we obviously prefer that you bring them so that you are able to attend!

Each class, or grade level (for those grade levels that rotate) will host two live sessions.

Session 1: 5:30-5:55

Passing Period: 5:55-6:00

Session 2: 6:00-6:25

The evening is a great opportunity for you to meet the teacher (if you didn’t get a chance during our back Wolf Canyon Meet and Greet on July 17th), learn more about the grade-level curriculum, and hear about the expectations we have for students.

Please make sure to be on the lookout for specific information from your child’s teacher in the days to come.

Thank you,

Wolf Canyon

A couple of updates and reminders…

As a reminder, breakfast at Wolf Canyon is free and available to all Wolf Canyon students from 8:00-8:40 a.m. The kitchen is open from 8:00-8:35 a.m. The dining area closes at 8:40 a.m.

DROP OFF: Parents and Guardians, please ensure you drop off students in the designated drop-off and pick-up area at the front of the school. Cars should not be parked and unattended on the curb during drop-off. If you are dropping off a TK or Kinder student, we recommend you come a little early and park so that you can accompany your child to the gate or have an adult accompany the child as they are dropped off in the designated drop-off and pick-up area, located at the front of the school.

DISMISSAL: Only TK/Kinder parents may pick up at the TK/Kinder gates. Keep in mind that TK/Kinder teachers will not let students walk to the car unattended.  Also, please be mindful of the vehicles waiting behind you, and do not cut in line. To ensure a smooth process, parents ideally should have a driver and another person who walks their child to the vehicle so that the driver can keep the flow of traffic moving. If you only have one adult, it is recommended you come early and park. As a safety reminder, please use the crosswalk at all times and instruct your students to do the same

Thank you,

Wolf Canyon

If you need to deliver something to your child during the school day, you or your designee will need to sign in as a visitor in the school office and take these items to your child during his/her recess or lunchtime only. Also, please make sure to coordinate how your child gets home after school prior to arriving to school. For everyone’s safety, the office will not be responsible for sending messages to students about after school pick up arrangements.

12 by 12 Pop Up Tents Needed

Good Afternoon Wolf Canyon Families! This year has started beautifully, and being back with students has been wonderful!

Last year, we reached out for donations of 12 by 12 pop-up tents. The elements have been hard on those canopies and they are no longer functional. As a result, we are in desperate need of them again. If you have any that you are not using and are willing to donate we would greatly appreciate it. If you can donate a new one, that would be amazing as well. We are hoping for a total of eight, but are happy with any number. You can drop all donations off at the front office.

Thank you,

Wolf Canyon

Parking Lot Reminders

Thank you for making the transition to the new school year so smooth!  We have noticed many families walking this year, and the impact has been immense. If you haven’t traditionally walked to school, and you are within walking distance, we highly encourage you to try it.

Parking this year will continue to be a challenge, mainly because we have added two TK classes. Our lot was built for a school of about 500 students, and this year we are approaching 1000. This means we will all have to continue to work together to ensure the process is as smooth and safe as possible.

With that in mind, we did want to share a few quick reminders and tips.

  1. When you enter the parking lot, there are two distinct lanes. The lane on the right is for drop-off. If you have a student in 1st-6th grade that you are dropping off stay in this lane and pull as far forward as possible. The left lane is used as a through lane for all families looking to park. Thank you for not using the through lane as a drop-off area as this poses a safety issue. Also, thank you for not double-parking in the parking lot to drop off students.
  2. Our student crossing guard teams will be back soon!!  Please exercise a bit more patience and understanding than usual as we work to get our teams totally trained.  Once they have been on the job for a bit, the time spent waiting in the drop-off line will shorten!
  3. The signs posted near the edge of the sidewalk in the drop-off lane that says, “No stopping, pull all the way forward,” are intended to prevent drivers from leaving their cars unattended and parked.  When dropping off we ask that you please pull as far forward as you can.  If you have driven past the first crosswalk (where you see me each morning), and all the cars in the line in front of you have stopped, you can have your children exit the vehicle and then pull away.  You do not have to wait until you get to the front of the line to have them leave the vehicle.
  4. It is fastest if children start preparing to exit the vehicle as soon as you enter the parking lot.  Then, once you stop, they can say goodbye and I love you, hop out of the car, and shut the door quickly.  The faster we can get students out of cars, the shorter the wait time will be. Those few extra seconds make all the difference when trying to get so many cars through the line.
  5. The bus loop located at the southwest corner of the school is designated for busses and staff parking.  Please continue to be mindful of this.  We have had a few close calls with drivers making illegal U-turns at both, the entrance, and exit of the south bus loop.  Please remember that area is not intended as a drop-off area.  We kindly ask that you use the main drive-thru loop.
  6. Please remember to always use the crosswalk.  We know it can be a bit faster to cut across the parking lot in different sections, but drivers have been trained to watch for pedestrians in the crosswalks and not elsewhere.  We have had a couple of close calls recently, and want to ensure everyone arrives safely.  We also want to continue to teach our students the safest way to cross a busy street or parking lot.

We can’t thank you enough for your ongoing support!

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.

Respectfully,

Principal Lange

Happy First Day and Parking Lot Reminders

Good Morning Wolf Canyon Families, It was a joy to see so many of our Wolf Canyon Timberwolves and families at our event on Monday!  Today we will hit the ground running and are excited about everything the year holds for us.  We know that the parking lot drop-off can be hectic in the morning, and we genuinely appreciate your patience.  Please remember that the first week will be a bit more hectic than normal because of limited parking issues related to TK/K orientation, and families parking and walking their children to class.  Tomorrow, we anticipate it to calm down a bit because more people will utilize the drop-off lane (the lane closest to the school buildings).  While the traffic situation will continue to improve, we continue to strongly encourage you to walk to school (if possible). Today’s Arrival: All families will access the school through the front gate.  We will open the gates at 8:30 and you will be able to walk your child straight to their classroom.  Teachers will greet them, and we will begin the day at 8:45.  We kindly ask that when the 8:45 bell rings you head for the exit as we will need to lock our perimeter gates and teachers will need to start the day. Tomorrow’s Arrival: Gates will be open at 8:20, and all our 1st-6th grade families will be able to walk their students to the blacktop area (students were shown their lines today while at school).  When there, students can walk laps, read at their lines, or sit at their line until picked up by the teacher at 8:45.  TK and K please follow the directions you received this morning at orientation. The tardy bell will ring at 8:45 and our students, teachers, and staff will be eager to begin class immediately at that time.  For this reason, we ask that you make your way off campus after dropping off. Arrival and Pick-Up Safety Reminders: There are nearly 1000 students that attend Wolf Canyon, and our parking lot infrastructure was not designed to support that number.  Because of this, it is even more important to remember the following guidelines. IF YOU ARE DROPPING OFF STUDENTS PLEASE DO SO IN THE DRIVE-THRU LANE (CLOSEST TO THE BUILDING) AND PULL AS FAR FORWARD AS POSSIBLE BEFORE LETTING STUDENTS OUT.  PLEASE DO NOT DROP OFF STUDENTS UNTIL YOU HAVE REACHED THE DROP OFF ZONE.  DROPPING OFF BEFORE THAT SECTION SLOWS DOWN TRAFFIC TREMENDOUSLY. DRIVE SLOWLY AND CAUTIOUSLY OBSERVE SIGNS AND CONES THANK YOU FOR NOT TEXTING OR TALKING ON CELL PHONES WHILE DRIVING REMEMBER TO USE THE CROSSWALKS AT ALL TIMES THANK YOU FOR NOT DOUBLE PARKING THANK YOU FOR NOT USING THE DRIVE THRU LANE AS A DROP OFF LANE THANK YOU FOR FOLLOWING THE DIRECTIONS OF THE SAFETY PATROL OFFICERS THANK YOU FOR BEING RESPECTFUL AND POLITE BIKES, SCOOTERS, SKATEBOARDS, HOVERBOARDS, ETC. MUST REMAIN LOCKED ON THE BIKE RACK OR KEPT IN A SAFE PLACE IN THE CLASSROOM TO BE DETERMINED BY THE TEACHER. STUDENTS MUST WALK THESE ITEMS ON CAMPUS DURING ARRIVAL AND DISMISSAL We hope that you have a fantastic evening.  We look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow! Respectfully, Mr. Lange
