Thank you to those that have already helped out our 6th-Grade team fulfill their Newbery Wishlist! If you are interested in knowing more about it take a look below at the updated list of needed books! Any and all support is appreciated!
MOCK NEWBERY WISHLIST! – Have you ever seen this seal on the front cover of a book? It is called the Newbery Award and this award is given to “… the most distinguished American children’s book of the previous year.” The winner is chosen by committees of the Association for Library Service to Children. Committee members consists of distinguished adults who read, discuss, and select a winner each year. Knowing this, the students have often wondered why children and students have never been part of the selection process. Hence, in 2015 the birth of Wolf Canyon’s Mock Newbery was born.
Wolf Canyon sixth graders participate in an annual Mock Newbery. Eight titles from a contenders list is selected. Students read and discuss each title, and in the end, the students select a winner based on a student-generated rubric using the John Newbery criteria as a guide. Each year, our students learn to love reading and express and contribute their opinions about what they read.
Thank you for the incredible generosity from our families who were able to donate books for our upcoming Mock Newbery Book project for all sixth graders at Wolf Canyon!!! Your thoughtfulness will inspire many of our young readers with amazing, current, and exemplary pieces of literature. We are still short of a full rotation for ALL sixth graders so we are asking for a final push to help us get 16 copies of each book. Currently, we are at:

Don’t forget, this Friday is a Fall-Themed Dress-Up Day! We are encouraging students to dress in fall colors, a Halloween costume, or like their favorite character from literature. Please remember the following guidelines for tomorrow.
Regular school rules regarding the dress code must be followed.
No masks (other than face masks), canes, sticks, accessories, inflatable costumes, weapon-like items of any kind, fake blood, or other substances that will spill or cause a mess will be allowed.
Unfortunately, we aren’t able to allow students to bring treats for their class. If you would like to do something like that feel free to pass them out after school.
Students may not wear anything suggestive or provocative in nature.
Attire can not promote the use of illegal substances or activities, be derogatory or disrespectful, or portray violence.
Students must show respect to other students by not touching, defacing, or insulting other students’ costumes.
Students must show respect for others by not choosing costumes that are insensitive and/or offensive to the diverse backgrounds represented by others at our school.
Thank you for your help in ensuring these guidelines are met so that we can enjoy a festive day!
Thank you, Casey LangePrincipal
