WEEKLY UPDATE: Week of March 15th

Wolf Canyon Families,

As COVID-19 case rates continue to decline throughout the county, we are excited that San Diego County may soon enter the less restrictive red tier and we may soon be able to open Wolf Canyon Elementary for in person instruction using the hybrid model.  When we are given the clearance to reopen by the Chula Vista Elementary Board of Education, we will be ready to welcome your child(ren) back to school.

The CVESD Board of Education will be meeting Tuesday, March 16th at 6:00 p.m. for a Special Board Meeting where they will discuss reopening CVESD for in person instructions.  You can access this virtual board meeting through the District Website http://www.cvesd.org.

We are currently in the process of finalizing in person (Hybrid) vs. distance learning parent preferences.  Teachers have been contacting parents to confirm preferences and will continue through our upcoming parent teacher conferences.

There is a Principal Chat scheduled for next Thursday, March 18th at 5:00 p.m. Click here to join the meeting. The meeting will be recorded in case you are unable to attend at that time.

Please note the following details regarding the hybrid model:

  • Smaller class sizes to help maintain a safe 6-feet of distance
  • Cohort of students-AM & PM
    • AM Session- 8:45-11:30 (2hrs 45 min)
    • PM Session- 12:30-3:15 (2hrs 45 min)
  • Thing’s parents/guardians should plan for in the hybrid model:
    • No in person learning on Friday (all students will attend distance learning each Friday)
    • NO breakfast or lunch will be served
    • NO recess will be provided
    • NO snack break will be provided
    • NO before or after school care will be provided such as YMCA and DASH (if your child is enrolled in DLSP, this will continue)
    • Assure students are dropped off and picked up on time
    • No transportation will be provided unless it is indicated on your child’s IEP
    • NO parents or volunteers will be allowed on campus
    • ALL students and staff will be required to wear a mask while on campus
    • Students will be required to complete asynchronous work before or after in person instruction

If a family elects to keep their child in distance learning, your child’s schedule will remain similar with the exception of TK and our Special Day Classes (SDC).

We will continue to update you on our reopening plans.  Please contact me should you have any questions in the meantime.

Thank you,

Mathew Shy
