Hello Wolf Canyon families! We are excited to bring back our annual Wolf Canyon Family Bingo Night! Please join us this evening for an amazing evening of bingo and food!

While we can’t share the prize list with you, we promise that you will not be disappointed!

Just a reminder that there is NO school this Monday, January 16th in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

We will see everyone on Tuesday, Jan. 17th. Tuesday will be a regular dismissal.

The Wolf Canyon Coed Soccer Team tryouts will be on Tuesday, January 17^th from 3:30 – 4:30 after school. 

It is open to all 4^th – 6^th graders.  Proper athletic clothing, cleats and shin guards are mandatory.  *It is important that students realize that this is a competitive league.  We will have over 30 students try out for a roster of up to only 15 players. 

Students can pick up a permission slip and more details from Mr. Nixon in room 302 or Mrs. Simmons in room 306.

Our 22/23 Yearbooks will go on sale starting January 10th for $36 until Feb. 28. The price will increase to $50 after that date. All sales end on March 17th and must be placed online.

Just a reminder that school resumes tomorrow, Tuesday, January 10th and it is a minimum day dismissal! TK and Kindergarten will dismiss at 1:30pm and 1st – 6th grade will dismiss at 1:45pm.

Please make appropriate transportation and child care arrangements. We look forward to an amazing second quarter!

Hello Timberwolf Parents!

I hope you all enjoy winter break with your Timberwolves.

PTA has been busy this first half of the year and we are excited to go into 2023 with more exciting events.

The first PTA meeting of the New Year will be January 10th at 6pm via Zoom (link will be sent January 8th or 9th). This coincides with the first day back for our kiddos as well. This is an important meeting so I’m asking that all attend that can in order to reach quorum. We will be picking the nominating committee for the 2023/2024 school year board, if you’re interested in being on the board or the committee please attend. We have already received some interest in the nominating committee so for those that have reached out thank you and please be there to volunteer.

Dear Parents and Guardians:

The purpose of the following letter is to provide clarity regarding the new CVESD Progress Report (formerly titled report card).   Let me begin by saying, we are incredibly proud of the progress our students have demonstrated thus far and look forward to seeing their continued growth.   

The purpose of the progress report is:

• To communicate a student’s academic achievement/progress toward established year-end District Learning Targets/State Standards.
• To communicate a student’s use of key learning skills which are critical to student success.
• To indicate a student’s learning progress.  This helps to establish areas of strength and areas where additional time and effort would be beneficial.

Below you will find the breakdown of the many indicators embedded within the progress report itself.

Citizenship and Learning Skills

This section of the progress report addresses classroom behaviors such as following school rules and expectations, managing responsibilities, and communicating with others. 

A student will receive a C, U, or I to indicate current performance in each area:

        C–Consistently

        U–Usually

        I–Inconsistently

ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE

This section of the progress report provides information on your student’s current level of performance in Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening, Language, Foundational Skills, Mathematics (all aligned to the Common Core State Standards), Science, and Social Studies.  

A student will receive a 4, 3, 2, or 1 to indicate current performance in each area.  It is important to remember that these numerical values are based on student progress toward end-of-the-year grade-level expectations.  The scoring guide or rubric, which provides a description of each level (1-4) for each learning target is embedded directly below this paragraph, can be viewed on the district website, and will be sent home at the same time as progress reports.

The main difference with the progress report is the qualification that accompanies each number, ex: 4 (met/exceed).  At this point in the year, many of the standards have still not been taught.

Ex:  In writing, there are three main genres taught; informative, opinion, and narrative.  These types of writing are not all taught at the same time.  If your child’s grade level teaches narrative writing in Q3, then they will not be able to earn a 4 in Q2 because not all standards have been taught yet.  At the point it has been taught, a student could then earn a 4.

As a result, you will see many 2s or 3s, which is to be expected because scores are based on mastery of end-of-year standards. The new scoring indicators also leave a lot of room with respect to students meeting/exceeding.  It your child is exceeding, not just meeting in an area, you may receive additional information in the comment section outlining their success.

        2–Approaching

        1–Not Met

An NA is used when an area has not been assessed or when there is not enough information.

Thank you to all of our Birthday Book Club members this quarter! We will have one more celebration in January if you would like your student to make it into the yearbook! If you missed the deadline this round, you can still turn in forms to the Library next week and we will celebrate next month! All invitations for birthdays through the month of June will be distributed before Winter Break. Thank you for your incredible support of our Library!
