Weekly COVID Testing Update

Good Morning Wolf Canyon Families,

General Update:

When the district moved to group tracking for positive cases there were concerns, all throughout the district, about the fact that the required negative test results weren’t required to be submitted.  Because of those concerns, the district has implemented a new protocol.  If you receive an exposure letter from the school your child will still need to be tested on days 3, 4, or 5 AFTER the last date of exposure listed in the letter.  Information about the results of the test (home, antigen, or PCR) must then be logged here https://forms.office.com/r/uzEF13QrRE.  The district COVID team will continually track that information provided, cross-reference the various lists they have, and reach out to families that haven’t submitted results.

Weekly Testing Update:

We are excited to announce that our weekly testing will begin next Wednesday.  Covid Clinic has done a walkthrough of the school with us and is confident that they will be able to test our entire school in one day.  To date, we have almost 400 students that have signed up for the optional weekly testing.  One of the advantages of the weekly testing is that if you receive an exposure letter from the school your child does not have to worry about going to get a test at a test site or take an antigen test at home. *See asterisk below for one exception to this rule.

What does that look like at school?  And, what are the details?

  1. Each week, the team of medical professionals will verify all enrolled participants the day prior to our testing day, Wednesday. *** If you haven’t signed up yet, please click the following link (COVID CLINIC LINK).  The most important part of the enrollment process is to hit the “order first test” on the final page.  This step simply sends confirmation of the request to the team so they can print labels.  If you haven’t selected the order first test yet, simply log back into the account you created and select this option (you will only have to do this one time).
  2. The team will print labels for Wolf Canyon on Tuesday afternoon (that means if you haven’t signed up yet, you have until noon on 2/15 to sign up in order to be included in the first round of testing).
  3. They will arrive on Wednesdays beginning first thing in the morning and will travel to each classroom beginning at 9:00.
  4. The tests that are administered are the PCR tests.  This is important because, unlike the antigen test,  it doesn’t require a fifteen-minute wait time in each class, and allows the testers to swab each registered student efficiently.  The testers have shared that they are averaging between 7-10 minutes per class (depending on the number of students enrolled in the testing.
  5. When done, the results will be sent off to the lab, and the results will be sent directly to the email/phone number used to register the account.
  6. If the test is negative you aren’t required to do anything.  If the results are positive you can continue to send those results to casey.lange@cvesd.org and copy wolfcanyonschool@cvesd.org.  You would then follow the protocols that have been in place for the last few months.  As always, if you have questions, please reach out to us or covtest4@cvesd.org.
  7. All staff, regardless of vaccination status, is required to test weekly.

*If your child has enrolled in the weekly testing, and has had COVID in the last ninety days (we will have a list of students prior to each testing day) they will not be given a PCR test because it may still show a positive result.  This means if you fall into this category and receive an exposure letter you will still need to get an antigen test on days 3, 4, or 5 and submit the results using the form linked above.  After the ninety-day window has passed your child will then be able to test weekly with the PCR.

Finally, here is a link to a COVID FAQ (Link).  It contains a great deal of information and can be useful when navigating questions that may arise.

Respectfully,

Casey and Mary Margaret

Hello Wolf Canyon Families

We appreciate everyone’s patience and resolve during our transition from winter break back to school.  It has been such a joy to welcome students and staff back into our halls and classrooms!  This email contains a great deal of important information, and we truly appreciate you taking the time to read it in its entirety.

Please be aware that the guidelines for quarantine, testing, and returning to school are rapidly evolving.  As this happens, we are doing our very best to stay informed and provide quick support to our families.  We ask that you continue to exercise patience and grace toward everyone as we navigate these waters together.

Below are the current guidelines for testing:

CVESD also understands there are still many questions that families have related to the protocols in place.  With that in mind, they have developed a COVID 19 email address COVTEST4@CVESD.ORG

If you have any COVID-related questions or concerns, please reach out directly to that email as it is checked throughout the day and responded to quickly.

Also, with the increase of positive cases the processes for notifying the community of said cases and close contacts has changed.

What’s the same:  Each time there is a positive case at school you will receive the general email with the non-close contact notification form attached

What is different: If it was determined that your child was a close contact while at school you will receive a secondary email explaining the next steps.  The email that you will get contains a survey for you to fill out.  This survey is a critical step as it gives you an opportunity to provide important information and choose a quarantine option.  If you don’t fill the form out within 24 hours, it will be assumed that your child will be out the full ten days and return on day 11.

Please let us know if your child has tested positive (whether from a home test, test from a doctor, test from a county testing site, or while taking a test at the district)

What to do if your child tests positive: Use the procedures below to notify us of any positive test that occurs beginning today, 1/14/2022. You do not need to report a case that occurred prior to today as that has already been captured by the previous process.

  1. Write your child’s name on the test kit and take a picture of it (home test) or download the copy of the lab report sent to you by the testing lab (non-district lab).
  2. Send an email to CovTest3@cvesd.org using the template below.
  3. Make sure to also include casey.lange@cvesd.org on the email.

Email Template:

Subject Line: Positive COVID Test

Body: Name, Date of Birth, School (because it goes to the district as well), Grade, Classroom #, Symptom Onset Date, Symptoms, Contact Number, Last day at school.

Thank you,

Casey Lange
