Monday, October 12 school is in session and it is Picture Make-up Day.

Monday, October 12 School Site Council Meets.  CAASPP (the new state test) data will be shared.  The SSC meeting is open to everyone.

Tuesday, October 13 is the PTA Reflections Reception at 6:00 pm for all students who submitted an entry.  The PTA general meeting will follow this event. Reflections Reception is at 6:00 pm on October 20. PTA General meetings will follow this event.

A permission slip will be sent home this week to all students in the Military Ambassadors Club (MAC), K-Kids, Student Council, Safety Patrol, Peace Patrol, and Glee, to participate in the Veteran’s Day parade at Veterans Elementary on Friday, Nov. 6th.  Students in these organizations with a parent in the military are invited to march in the parade with their parent in uniform. Veterans Parade Flyer 2015

The 2nd Quarter begins Tuesday, October 6 and is a minimum day.  Kinder is dismissed at 1:30 pm and all other students are dismissed at 1:45 pm. Please make arrangements to have your child picked up on time.

The PTA Reflections Artist Contest entries are due this Thursday, October 8.  All students who participate will receive a “No Homework” coupon good for one assignment.

Calling all Military Families! There will be a Military Support Committee meeting on Friday, Oct. 9th from 12:00-1:00 in the YMCA room. Join us for some delicious tacos as we discuss resources and how to best support our Military students. MSC_flyer

Wolf Canyon Elementary will be a proud participant in this year’s Veteran’s Day parade at Veterans Elementary on Friday, Nov. 6th. We have Minimum Days all this week – 1:30 pm dismissal for Kindergarten and 1:45 pm dismissal for grades 1-6.  Remember to stop by the Bookfair!

Tuesday, September 15 is our PTA General Meeting at 7:00 pm.

Wednesday, September 16 is Family Dinner Night at Panda Express in the Otay Lakes Shopping Center. Bring your flier between 12:00 noon and 8:00 pm and Wolf Canyon will get a portion of the proceeds.

Friday, September 18 is the last day of the 1st Quarter.  School resumes on Tuesday, October 6.

Golf Squad brings a PGA Professional to Wolf Canyon Elementary School to instruct students on specific skills to enjoy golf for a lifetime. All equipment is provided and classes focus on enjoying the game while learning the swing and course fundamentals. Monday, September 7 is Labor Day and there is no school.

Tuesday, September 8 our first ELAC meeting at 3:30 pm will offer parent training for Kidbiz/Teenbiz in the computer lab. All parents are welcome.

Thursday, September 10 – 18 we have parent/teacher conferences and we will be on minimum day schedule – students in kindergarten will be dismissed at 1:30 pm and students grades 1-6 will be dismissed at 1:45 pm.

Friday, September 11 is Family Movie Night and Campout. Students who make cardboard box vehicles will receive a “No Homework” pass good for one assignment. The movie is free and will begin once the sun goes down. If you are also camping, spaces are $20 during the pre-sales or $25 at the door.

We are in need size 4-6x boys and girls pants and underwear for some of our younger children who sometimes have accidents. Please drop off your donations to Miss Anna in the health office.

Tuesday, August 18 at 3:30 pm is our first ELAC meeting to support our English learners.  We will be voting for the ELAC board for 2015 – 2016.

Tuesday, August 18 at 7:00 pm  is our first general PTA meeting for the 2015 – 2016 school year.  Please come out and support our students by supporting our PTA and the many great activities and events they sponsor.  This week PTA will have information for the September 11 school Campout – volunteers are needed.  Pre-sale tickets to camp over night are $20 and will be available Monday, August 17 through Friday, September 4.  The PTA is also sponsoring the Reflections competition for our budding young artists.  All entries are due by Friday, October 9.  Look for the flyer coming home for the details.

Wednesday, August 19 from 9:00 am – 11:00 am and every Wednesday thereafter Cub Club is available in the YMCA room for your younger children to play with other children while you get to know other parents.

We are starting a Peace Patrol at Wolf Canyon this year! 4th-6th grade students interested in Peace Patrol will receive training in peer conflict resolution and will help younger students on the playground. 4th-6th graders can learn more about this opportunity during morning recess on Monday, Aug. 24th. There will be an informational meeting for parents interested in helping out with Peace Patrol on Monday, August 24th at 3:30.

Monday, August 10 at 3:30 pm we have a School Site Council (SSC) and English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC) parent informational meeting.  The primary purpose of these committees is to develop and oversee our School Plan for Student Achievement and how we spend the monies to support our students and with this plan.   SSC and ELAC members are elected and serve as representatives for the school.

Tuesday, August 11 from 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm there will be a DAC/DELAC meeting at the Chula Vista Elementary School District Office located at 84 E. J Street.  DAC/DELAC primarily serves as a parent advisory committee for the school district.

Visitors/Volunteers may begin coming on to the campus tomorrow, Monday, August 3.  Remember to sign in and review the Visitor/Volunteer information sheet.  All visitors and volunteers must wear the visitor/volunteer badge, must sign in and out, and must have current TB clearance on file in our school office.  Visitors/Volunteers may not give food to children who are not their own and younger siblings are not permitted on campus during the school day. Volunteer Inservice 2015

Just a reminder that Wolf Canyon is not responsible for toys, gadgets, jewelry, hair ornaments, and electronics that get lost, broken, or stolen.  If you have belongings that are not necessary for school and are very special to you, we encourage you to keep these things at home.

Wednesday, July 29 at 9:00 am – 10:00 am there will be a Volunteer In-service in the school auditorium for anyone who is interested in volunteering at Wolf Canyon. For the safety of everyone, no visitors or volunteers are allowed on campus during the school day for the first 2 weeks of school. Visitors and Volunteers may begin coming on campus Monday, August 3.

Thursday, July 30 at 6:30 pm is Parent Safe Schools Night in the school auditorium. Find out what we do at Wolf Canyon to keep your children safe from bullying, drugs, and violence. Also, for everyone’s safety, remember the following:
1. Drop off and pick up students only in the front of the school and not the bus loop
2. If you must leave your car, park in the parking lot and not the drive through zone
3. Please do not bring animals particularly dogs
4. Please do not park in reserved spaces
5. When waiting for your child at the end of the day please do so in the courtyard at the front of the school or the lunch arbor
6. Please do not block the front gate entryway
7. If you are dropping off your child for YMCA during the Olympian High rush, you may move the cone and place it back
7. Be PATIENT and think safety first

Smoothie Thursdays are back and will begin on July 30 after school.

Run for Fun will begin at 8:00 am starting August 3. Students run or walk the track each morning to stay fit and earn prizes. Parent volunteers are needed for this program. Contact the school office for more information at 619-482-8877.
