TK and K Families

Dear Incoming TK and Kinder Parents,

Welcome to the 2023-2024 School Year at Wolf Canyon. Our TK and Kinder teams are so excited to start this new school year with you all. As the school year gears up here are a few pieces of information to share.

* The first day of school for all students is July 19th, with a school start time of 8:45 AM. Please plan accordingly as we are a very large school, and our neighboring High School start time is 8:30.

*  On July 19th, all TK and Kinder Families will attend our Kinder Orientation, where we will share information that is needed for our new school year.

*  For our TK/Kinder orientation on July 19th, we are asking that all families and students enter through the main gate right outside the school office and head into the school auditorium. Our orientation will begin promptly at 9:00 AM.  You will meet the team, hear a brief presentation, tour the classrooms, and then be dismissed for the day (at about 10:30).

*  TK and K will be on a minimum day schedule for the first eight days of the school year (7/19, 7/20, 7/21, 7/24, 7/25, 7/26, 7/27, 7/28).  On those days, TK will dismiss at 1:25, and Kindergarten will dismiss at 1:45.  Important!!  Because of this unique schedule, DASH/YMCA and bussing (for those of you that utilize it at the beginning of the year) will only be available on the standard minimum days (7/21 and 7/28).

*  On 7/17, we will have a back-to-school meet-the-teacher event.  This year, TK and K are embarking on a new adventure, Wolf Pack Academy.  This means that when you arrive to the event on the 17th you will see your child’s name in a TK or K class, but that does not necessarily mean that will be your child’s final teacher.  You will receive more information about this on the 17th.  Your child’s final teacher will be provided on the evening of 7/27.

*  Standard Daily Schedules:

Arrival:

TK: Monday through Thursday: At 8:35, enter through the main student gate, and line up in the main hallway near TK (more to come on the 17th and 19th).  Friday: All TK students will use the main gate to enter and will line up on their classroom letter on the blacktop for Friday’s assembly

KindergartenMonday through Thursday: At 8:35, the kindergarten gate will be open for students to walk in.  Friday:  All kindergarten students will use the main gate to enter and will line up on their classroom letter on the blacktop for Friday’s assembly.

Dismissal:

TKMonday through Thursday: Students will dismiss at 2:55 from the kindergarten gate.  Friday: Students will dismiss at 1:25 from the kindergarten gate.

KindergartenMonday through Thursday students will dismiss at 3:00 from the kindergarten gate.  Friday: Students will dismiss at 1:30 from the kindergarten gate.

Welcome Back

Hello, wonderful Wolf Canyon families!

We are beyond excited to welcome our Wolf Pack back to school and can’t wait to see all of you! We wanted to send along a few friendly updates and reminders about the upcoming year.

Below, there is quite a bit of important information, so we ask that you read it carefully.  Also, not everyone checks the blog or is signed up to receive messages through Messenger, so if you have a friend or neighbor that hasn’t received this information, please share it with them.

The first day of school for students is July 19th and is a minimum day.

1st Week Schedule:

July 19th: First Day of School

TK/K Families will have orientation from 9:00-10:30. If you are a TK/Kinder family, please bring your child to the MPR by 9:00 (we will have signs to help you find your way and you are more than welcome to arrive beginning at 8:20 when the main gate will be open).  During orientation, you will stay with your child for the presentation, tour the school, and spend time in their classroom.  You will then be able to take your child home for the afternoon in preparation for a full day on the 20th.  (You will also be receiving another email later about additional TK and K information related to the first week and a half of school).

1st-6thGates will open at 8:20 and families can walk students directly to their classrooms.  Classrooms will open at 8:30 and the morning bell will ring at 8:45. Once the morning bell has rung, we kindly ask that parents make their way off campus as we will be locking the front gate shortly after.

July 20th:  Second Day of School

Kinder will drop their children off at the kinder gate (which will be open at 8:35). TK will drop their students off in the TK hall (you will find out more about this during the orientation on Wed.

1st-6th will head out to the blacktop once the gates open at 8:20.  See below for general information about arrival procedures.

July 21st:  Third Day of School

This is the typical Chula Vista Friday minimum day.  The arrival for all students is the same as above.  TK dismisses at 1:25, Kinder dismisses at 1:30, and all other graders dismiss at 1:45.

Standard Arrival Procedures: (See the schedule below for the modified procedure for the first week)

  • K Students: On all days except the first day of school, the kinder gate (located on the north side of the school near the 600 building) will open at 8:35 and parents will drop their children off directly at the K team.  T/K, on all days except the first day of school, you will enter through the gate nearest the front office and walk your children to the main TK hall (you will find out more about this on the first day of school.
  • 1st-6th Students: May enter the school’s main gate beginning at 8:20 and students will walk to the blacktop.  Once there, they can walk/run the track, read quietly in their classroom line, or sit on their classroom line and wait for the bell to ring at 8:45.

Back to School Meet and Greet:

1st-6th Grade Families: Please plan to join us on the blacktop for a family meet and greet on the 17th, between 2:00-3:30. Class lists will be available during this event, and will be posted on the wall ball courts beginning at 2:00. During this time, you will be able to briefly meet your child’s new teacher (and the rest of the teachers in the grade level), chat with families in the same class, and enjoy some delicious food from two food carts (Tacos and Pizza).   The food is for purchase, and a portion of the sales will be donated back to the school). If you are unable to attend the event, you will be able to find the name of your child’s teacher in the glass display case outside the main office beginning at 4:00 on the 17th. They will remain there through the first week.

TK/K Families:  You will be meeting in the MPR on the 17th, beginning at 2.  During this time we will be discussing an exciting new opportunity called, Wolf Canyon Academy.  The brief meeting will last for about ten to fifteen minutes and you can meet the rest of the TK/K team and enjoy the food (and meet other grade-level teachers if you have multiple children).

If, for some reason, you do not see your child’s name on any list please contact the main office.

Chalkwalk Prep Day

For volunteers prepping grids and outlines:

On Monday, May 22nd we will be gridding the sidewalk and drawing an outline of the art starting at 9:00.  Please come prepared with sunblock, a hat, and clothes you don’t mind getting “chalky”. No need to check in with the school office.  Mrs. Adamos will be at the front of the school.

For our Chalk Walk Volunteers Tuesday, May 23rd: A check-in table will be at the front of the school. Do not check in at the front office.  Please arrive at 8:30. You should have received an email with a training PowerPoint. It is important to review the PowerPoint prior to Tuesday.

If you are setting up canopies, you can start setting up canopies as soon as you arrive. The canopies will be staged in the grass near the front gate. No need to check-in. Set up canopies with the corresponding teacher/classroom labeled on the canopy first. You may leave as soon as all the canopies are set up.

If you loan us your shop vac or canopy, you may bring it to the school office on Monday or Tuesday morning.  Please label your item with your name and the teacher’s name/room #.  Don’t forget to label your canopy AND the case it comes with.

Thank you,

Wolf Canyon

Staff Appreciation Week

While nationally, staff appreciation week is celebrated next week, we have decided to celebrate the week of 5/22-5/26 (because Local Measures and State Testing will finally be done). Families can obviously still celebrate the teachers and staff during the traditional appreciation week, but we feel the spirit week taking place after testing won’t interfere with the nature of testing!

Please take a look at the flyer below for information about the upcoming week of celebration, including fun spirit dress-up days!

Here is a link to a staff favorites survey that was filled out that may be helpful if you decide to surprise someone during the week of the 22nd.

2023/24 Annual Residency for Continuing Students!

Residency verification for continuing students will take place again online this year.  All students returning to any school in the Chula Vista Elementary School District for the 2023/24 school year are required to prove residency with their school of attendance before the start of school in order for their child’s name to be placed on a class list.

You will be receiving an email that will contain a unique “Snap Code” for each of your children enrolled at Wolf Canyon and a link to the website where you will be able to update information for your child and upload your residency for the 23/24 school year.

We will begin sending the “Snap Codes” the week of May 22nd. Please make sure to check your emails so that you may complete this promptly. If you have not received your email by June 2nd, please contact the school office. For a list of acceptable documents for residency, please see the residency form below. Please note that bills must have a due date of May 19, 2023 or later.

Thank you!
