The Wolf Canyon K-Kids is once again collecting pennies, spare change or donations of any amount to support our Pennies for Pasta campaign to fight against blood cancer. Donations are being accepted now through February February 21 and will go to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The class that brings in the most donations will be given a pasta party compliments of the Olive Garden. Brother, can you spare a dime!

Monday, February 3 at 9:15am the winners from each 4-6 grade classroom will take part in the school wide Speech Competition. Wolf Canyon will select one winner for 4th, 5th and 6th grade to advance to the District Competition.

Friday, February 7 is National “Wear Red Day”. Support our efforts to support the American Heart Association. All Jump Rope for Heart donation envelopes will be collected and students will have the opportunity to participate in the school wide Jump Rope for Heart event. Have a heart, get donations and save a life.

Traffic Alert – Please note that there will be some road closures in the housing area west of La Media February 3 – 28. Students who ride the bus will need to refer to the notice that was sent home. Also, please remember that the bus loop is not a drop off/pickup area for children. Please remind all folks dropping off and picking up your children to do so at the front of the school.
For everyone’s safety please enter and exit the school slowly and remember to model for your children the importance of not using cell phones while driving.

Boxtops are a great way for our school to earn supplies and materials. Please look for groceries that have the labels for Boxtops for Education, cut it out and send all boxtops no later than February 17.

Mark your calendars for 2 very special events: March 10 from 9:00 am – 10:00 an at the next Principal Coffee Chat, Mr. Larry Alvarado will give presentation on behavior management tips for parents to use at home. On April 10 at 6:30 pm to learn about the changes in State Testing and our plans to begin a Dual Immersion program at Wolf Canyon for the 2014-2015 school year.

Tuesday, January 28 at 3:30 pm our ELAC Committee will discuss changes taking place to better support our English Learners.

Thursday, January 30 at 6:30 pm Grades 3-6 will hold their Science and Technology night. A representative from Kidbiz will also be on hand to provide parent training and answer any questions you may have about this program. The in-service will be from 7:00 pm – 7:30 pm. On Friday, January 31 at 6:30 pm Grades K-2 will hold their Science and Technology night.

Junior soccer team try-outs for students in grades 1-3 will be right after school this week on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Boys soccer practice will be on Wednesday and Thursday this week.

Robotics will start on Friday with very cool Robotics Projects that will test student’s building abilities and emphasize critical thinking.
*2nd-3rd graders will construct a Kicker, Goalie and a Cheering Fans to complete a Soccer game that parents can come and see.
*4th-6h graders will build a Vehicle with interchangeable wheels, gears and will use it to have a GOLF game, navigate over

Bricks4Kidz will begin the next 6 week session on Tuesday, January 21, ending February 25. Class is from 3:30-4:30. This is a lego engineering class where students will build and design models using lego bricks, motors, and batter packs. Need gifts for the Holidays? Now through December 20th, school Spirit Wear is on SALE! Prices and Items are in the showcase at the front of the school office.

The Holiday Gift Shop is open this week in room 305, Monday – Thursday from 8:15 am – 4:00 pm. Prices range from 50 cents to 20 dollars. Parents are welcome to shop as well.

Holiday Grams are on sale this week before and after school at the PTA table on the blacktop in the mornings and at the front of the school at the end of the school day. Buy Holiday Grams for your children or have them sent to your children’s friends. All Holiday Grams will be delivered on Friday, December 20th.

Tuesday, December 17 at 9:00 am come enjoy a cup of coffee, meet other families and learn more about Wolf Canyon School at the Principal Coffee Chat in the school auditorium.

Tuesday, December 17 at 7:00 pm come to the PTA general meeting. Social and treats begin at 6:30 pm. Bring a holiday treat to share. Childcare is provided.

Wolf Canyon is providing a series of Saturday workshops called “Common COREses” from 10:00 am – 12:00 am January 18, 25, and February 1. These workshops are designed to give parents a closer look at the major shifts in English Language Arts and Mathematics related to the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and what this means for your child’s academic education. Please complete and return the RSVP form no later than Friday, December 20. Lights! Cameras! Action! Don’t miss the KUSI Channel 51/Cable 9 “Songs of the Holiday Season” program which airs December 24th and 25th. Our very own Wolf Canyon GLEE Club is one of the choirs featured in this program.

Wednesday, December 4 is Family Dinner Night at Chili’s in the Otay Ranch Shopping Mall. Bring the flier and be sure to mention you are from Wolf Canyon.

The BOGO Bookfair begins Tuesday December 3 and ends on Thursday December 5. The Bookfair will be in room 305 from 8:20 am – 11:00 am and 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm on Tuesday and Wednesday. On Thursday, the Bookfair will be open all day from 8:20-3:30. Books make great Christmas gifts for students and teachers.

If your child has a birthday in November or December you can commemorate your child’s birthday by joining the Wolf Canyon Birthday Book Club for just $10. Your donation will allow your child to be the first student to check out the book he/she chooses from our special Birthday Book Club Section, have his/her name placed on the book plate inside the front cover, have his/her name announced in the morning assembly (Friday, December 20) and have a photo with his/her book on our Birthday Book Club Wall.

The 6th Grade Students of Wolf Canyon are collecting donations through November 22 to support the victims of Typhoon Haiyan. They are asking every student to donate at least $6.00 which would feed a family of 4. All donations will be sent to Operation Walang to purchase food packs for families. Any donation is appreciated and can be sent to your child’s teacher or the school office. For more information about Operation Walang visit their website at gk-usa.org.

Entries are being accepted now for the best drawing of a Wolf to be selected for the cover of this year’s yearbook. All artwork must be submitted to the school office no later than November 22.

Please remember to complete and turn in the Federal Survey cards to your child’s teacher or the school office no later than November 22. These cards are very important for our school funding.

The Lost and Found is starting to accumulate. Please mark your children’s jackets, sweatshirts, lunch bags, etc. with permanent marker. It will help us reunite lost items with their owners.

The Proposition E Independent Citizens Oversight Committee meeting is on Wednesday, November 20 at 6:00 pm at the Chula Vista Elementary School District Office located at 84 East J Street. The meeting is open to everyone and will be in the Dr. Lowell J. Billings Board Room. Minutes, Bylaws and Exhibits from the previous meetings are in the school office and available upon request.

There is no school Monday, November 11 in honor of Veteran’s Day. Thank you to all our military service men and women for everything you do for our country. We appreciate you!

The Ident-A-Kid program will be at our school on Friday, November 15. Information went home on November 7. If you want an ID card for your child please make sure to complete the application envelope and send with your child on Friday.

The Draw a Wolf Contest is back! Enter your best drawing of a Wolf and win a chance to have your artwork selected for the cover of this year’s yearbook. All artwork must be submitted to the school office no later than November 22.

Please support our school Fundraiser! Remember to ask family members and friends to consider purchasing items from the fundraiser catalog as gifts for the upcoming holidays.

We are collecting Canned Food and Toys to support our community during the holiday season. Please consider donating! We are collecting both items now through November 15.
