Timberwolves:

Parent Teacher Conferences will begin Thursday, September 13, 2018 and continue through Friday, September 21, 2018.  Remember, all 1st-6th grade students will be dismissed at 1:45 p.m during the conference period. Kindergarten students will be dismissed at 1:30 p.m.  Please make appropriate transportation and child care arrangements.  We look forward to seeing you all at parent teacher conferences soon.

Give the Gift of Reading: JOIN THE BIRTHDAY BOOK CLUB!

Commemorate your child’s birthday by donating $10.00 for the purchase of a hardback book for the Wolf Canyon Library!  Book Club invitations will be distributed according to birthday month, but your child may join at any time.  Invitations for the birthday months of July, August, September, and October have been distributed.  To join during first quarter, forms and money must be turned in by Friday, September 14^th.  Presentation of books will be on Friday, September 21^st.  Forms can be found in the school office as well as the library.

Congratulations to Connor Szczechowicz, a third grader at Wolf Canyon.  Connor was recognized by our Board of Education for qualifying for the US Kids Golf WorldChampionships.

Timberwolves:

Please make it a top priority this week to attend Curriculum Night. 

• Kinder- Gr. 3 will be on Wednesday, August 15^th
• Gr. 4 –Gr. 6 will be on Thursday August 16^th

Each night, parents will meet in the auditorium from 6:00-6:30pm and then there will be two classroom sessions from 6:30-7:00pm and 7:00-7:30pm.  Also, on Thursday night, the 6^th grade team will be hosting an Ice Cream Social at 5:30pm to help raise money for 6^th grade activities.

On Tuesday, August 14^th, Wolf Canyon will be hosting a District Professional Development in our Multi-Purpose Room from 8:00-3:00pm.  Please be mindful that parking and traffic will be impacted because of this meeting.  Please give yourself a little extra time before and after school on Tuesday.

Active Duty Military Families:  Last week MFLC parent forms were sent home to Active Duty Military families.  Please sign and return those forms, so you child can take advantage of counseling services with our Military Counselor.  If you are an Active Duty family and did not receive a form, they can be picked up in the office.  If you have any questions about our Military Counseling program, please contact Marie at 619-694-7299.

For those who missed it, Dr. McLaren got the opportunity to say goodbye to student on Friday.  It is easy to see why she is so endeared by the Wolf Canyon community.  She will have a positive impact on the Camarena learning community.

We have three important parent/community meetings this week.  School Site Council (SSC), English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC), and Parent Teacher Association (PTA) all have their first meetings of the year.  Please review the “Week at a Glance” for dates and times.  All meetings are open to the entire school community.

Timberwolves:

We had an excellent first week of school. Our focus for quarter one is to ensure the entire Wolf Canyon learning community feels welcomed, valued, and notice.

We have two opportunities this week for parents and community members:

1. If you would like to volunteer in school/classrooms, please plan on attending the Volunteer In-service taking place on Wednesday, August 1^st from 9:00-10:00 a.m. in the Wolf Canyon Multi-Purpose Room

1. If you would like to learn more about the programs and structures that make Wolf Canyon such an exceptional school, please join us for Parent Academy Night on Wednesday, August 1^st from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.

If you haven’t done so already, please consider joining our Wolf Canyon PTA.  Our first PTA association meeting will take place on August 7^th at 6:30 p.m. in our Multi-Purpose Room.  Come have dinner with us and learn what events we are planning for the school this year.  Child Care provided.

ENGLISH LEARNER COMMITTEE PARENT REPRESENTATIVES

2018-19

Dear Parents/Guardians,

On August 7, 2018 elections will be held for Parent Representatives to the Wolf Canyon Elementary School English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC) for the 2018-19 school year. ELAC is a committee consisting of teachers, staff members and parents of students whose first language is not English. It is a meeting place where parents can participate and provide input for programs and services for English Learners.

The Wolf Canyon School English Learner Committee Bylaws specify that parent representatives, who are voting members, serve a one year term.  We have openings for this year’s committee for parent member or representatives.  Any parent/guardian whose child attends our school is eligible to be an ELAC member or representative.  ELAC meets at least four times a year.  If you would like to place your name on the ballot for Parent member or Representative, please complete the lower portion of this flyer and include one paragraph (optional) about why you would like to be part of the English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC). Return both the lower portion of this flyer and paragraph to the school office by 3:15PM, Wednesday, August 1^st.
