Monday, August 7 at 3:30 pm there will be a planning session for our 10 year Anniversary. WE NEED Bottle Caps for a very special 10 year Anniversary Project. Please start collecting the bottle caps and turn them in to the school office no later than Friday, September 15.

Monday, July 31 – Visitors and Volunteers may begin coming onto the campus.  If you do not have a signed Volunteer Agreement and current TB clearance on file you will need to do this before you can begin volunteering.  All visitors and volunteers are required to show identification and sign in to our Raptor system when coming on campus.

Monday, July 31 – Run 4 Fun begins. Students may walk or run the track each morning starting at 8:00 am and received prizes. Parent Volunteers are NEEDED.

Wednesday, August 2 from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm is Family Dinner Night at Chipotle located at 2290 Otay Lakes Road in Chula Vista.  Be sure to bring the chipotleflyer.

Thursday, August 3 Smoothie Thursdays are Back!  Smoothies will be sold after school each Thursday weather permitting while supplies last.

Friday, August 4 those wishing to serve on our school governance committees SSC and/or ELAC please turn in your one paragraph bio explaining who you are and what you believe you have to offer, no later than 4:00 pm.

Thursday, July 27 at 6:00 pm is Parent Academy Information Night.  The sessions are 20 minutes and will repeat a total of 4 times.  The topics include:

  • Visitor/Volunteer in-service (required for all volunteers on campus)
  • Campus Safety – What every parent should know.
  • Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) (for parents of students in grades 3-6)
  • What are SSC, ELAC, LCAP, and SPSA and how do they help your child?
  • General School Information (for new families to Wolf Canyon)
  • Testing – What does it all mean?
  • Achieve 3000 and Imagine Learning – How you can help at home.
  • PTA – Who they are and how do I get involved?

Representatives from  Family Resource Center and the Child Nutrition Services will be on hand to provide information and answer questions.

Welcome back to the 2017-18 school year!

Tuesday, July 18, 2017 from 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm meet your child’s teacher.  Kona Ice will be on hand and PTA will provide free Lumpia to everyone who stops by their table.  Also, PTA members will be on hand with membership information.  You do not need to be able to volunteer to be a PTA member.

For families who have children registered for the YMCA childcare before and after school there will be a Meet and Greet from 3:00 pm – 5:00 in the YMCA room.  For information about YMCA Childcare call 619-421-9622 ext. 

The First Day of School starts at 8:45 am on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 and is a Minimum Day.

  • 8:45 am – All students GRADES 1-6 should report to their classrooms for the first day.
  • 9:00 am – All kindergarten students and their parents go to the auditorium at 9:00 am for a Kindergarten Orientation. Kindergarten students are dismissed to go home with parents after the orientation (11:00 am).
  • 1:45 pm – All students GRADES 1-6 are dismissed.
  • PLEASE EXPECT TRAFFIC DELAYS ON THE FIRST DAY.

DROP OFF AND PICK UP IMPORTANT INFORMATION
1. Drop off and pick up students only in the front of the school and not the bus loop.
2. If you must leave your car, park in the parking lot and not the drive through zone.
3. Please do not bring animals including dogs on campus at any time – this includes arrival and dismissal.
4. Please do not park in RESERVED spaces.
5. Please wait in the courtyard at the front of the school to pick up your child.  For everyone’s safety Do Not Go to the classrooms.
6. Please keep the front gate entryway clear.
7. For parents dropping off children at the YMCA during the morning Olympian High traffic you may move the cones at the entryway and place them back.
8. Students must walk bikes, hover boards, and skate boards on side walks.
9. Students not picked up by 3:25 pm (1:55 pm on minimum days) will be escorted to the office, sign in and need to be signed out by the person picking him/her up.
10. For everyone’s safety BE PATIENT, KIND, and CONSIDERATE.

Thursday, June 1 School Picnic – Parents are invited to come eat lunch with their child during his/her regularly scheduled lunch time. Younger siblings are welcome but must be supervised as this is during student recess.  Our cafeteria will be serving hamburgers and hot Dogs Picnic-BBQ Flyer .

Thursday, June 1   Yearbooks will be delivered and students may get them signed throughout the day.  Students MAY NOT sign on each others bodies or clothing.  We have a few extra Yearbooks in the office available for $50 cash only – first come, first serve.

Friday, June 2  6th Grade Promotion/LAST DAY OF SCHOOL.   6th Grade students may go home after the promotion ceremonies.  Balloons will not be allowed in the auditorium.

As you are aware, our school community recently took part in an online learning process called Thoughtexchange to help inform our priorities. We’ve reviewed your thoughts and now want to share the results with you.

Do you have a child in Grades 3-6 who might benefit from a math summer review?  This program is run by a retired teacher and is tailored to your child’s grade level needs.

Another way to fight the summer slide is to have your child use Dreambox Math during the summer break.  Have them access their account to keep their edge over the break.

It just takes “One” music download to help the District’s Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) department. For each .99 download of the Mike Cothrine song, “One,” our VAPA department will receive 50 percent of the proceeds. A 30-day campaign started on Friday, May 19 to encourage CVESD families to download the song from iTunes. The proceeds will help fund the purchase of art supplies, costumes for theater productions, materials for props and sets, and music supplies.  “One” Music link

May 22-26 Staff Appreciation Week –  Children received a flyer this past week to write a message to their teacher.  Please return the flyer on Tuesday, May 23.

Monday, May 22 – Friday, May 26  Wristband Fundraiser.  Our school is in need of more sports equipment.  A group of students have put together this fundraiser.  Two types of wristbands will be for sale.  The prices are $1.00 and $2.00.  They have messages such as “Thanks goodness it’s Friday” and “Honesty is the best policy.”  They will be for sale before and after school.

Tuesday, May 23 in honor of teacher and staff appreciation week, Tuesday will be Super Hero Day.  Your child is welcome to dress up as a super hero and bring a gift for his/her teacher such as flowers, cookies, gift card, along with the personalized note your child created.

State and Local Testing Continues… Please make sure your child:
1.  Is on time and gets plenty of rest during the week
2. Eats a healthy breakfast
3. Bring ear buds if they have them, in a zip-lock bag with his/her name.

Monday, May 8, 3:30 pm SSC Meeting in room 304.

Tuesday, May 9, 3:30 pm – 4:00 pm in room 501 there will be a Chalk Walk in-service for all volunteers. If you are unable to attend the in-service, please e-mail Mrs. Joanne Adamos at Joanne.adamos@cvesd.org.

Thursday, May 11, 6:30 pm – Music Showcase featuring the GLEE club.

Friday, May 12  Last day to complete the parent Hanover Survey.  This is an opportunity to give your feedback regarding our school and district.  

May 18 6:00 pm  PTA is hosting Bingo Night  in the auditorium.  We are collecting donations from small businesses and parents for the Bingo prizes. Please bring your donations to the Office and put in the PTA drop box.  Your donations will be tax deductible and PTA has a tax exempt donation letter that we can provide if requested.  If you have any questions, please contact the PTA at wolfcanyonpta@gmail.com.  Bingo presale tickets are $15.00.  You may purchase a ticket at the door for $20.00

May 22  Residency Verification begins for the 2017/18 school year. All families must prove they live in our school boundaries in order for your child to be placed on a class list for the next school year. Please note the school office will be closed for the summer after June 9.

Wolf Canyon will have its 10 year anniversary next school year. If you are interested in being a part of the planning committee to organize something special for next year, there will be a brainstorming meeting June 5 at 1:00 pm in the school office.

Monday, May 1, 2017  Third grade students will begin the CAASPP state assessment. Please make sure your child is on time and gets plenty of rest during the week.  Eating a healthy, protein based breakfast will ensure your child has the stamina to do his/her best. Third graders will not receive homework during their testing period.  Also, if you child has ear buds, please have your child bring in a zip-lock bag with his/her name.
