WEEKLY UPDAT: Week of March 8th

Re-Opening Update

The process for reopening schools can begin once the county moves from the Purple Tier to the Red Tier.  We do not have an official start date, but with transmission rates declining across the county we need to begin to finalize our reopening plans at Wolf Canyon.  We are in the process of creating our In Person (Hybrid) Rosters, Distance Learning Rosters and teacher assignments. In order to finalize this process, your child’s classroom teacher will be in contact with you in the next couple of weeks to verify your families preference for In Person (Hybrid ) or Distance Learning.

It is important to note that families who select In Person (Hybrid) might not get their preference of AM.  Please communicate any extenuating circumstance with your child’s teacher.

Our hybrid schedule, will be 8:45 to 11:30 M-TH or 12:30-3:15 M-TH with all Distance Learning on Friday. If your child is staying in the Distance Learning format, their schedule will remain fairly consistent.

If you would like additional information about Reopening, please read the district handbook for parents.

WEEKLY UPDATE: Week of March 1st

Parent Teacher Conferences are quickly approaching (March 18th – 25th). Your child’s teacher will be sending conference sign-up information very soon. It is critical that all families schedule a parent teacher conference.

Daily schedules will be adjusted during Parent teacher Conference:

  • TK and K: 2 hours of synchronous instruction and 1 hour of asynchronous work
  • Gr. 1-3: 2 hours of synchronous instruction and 1 hour and 50 minutes of asynchronous work
  • Gr. 4-6: 2 hours of synchronous instruction and 2 hours of asynchronous work

The 2021-22 new kindergarten/new student registration process, on the new on-line enrollment system, was scheduled to begin on March 3, 2021, however, due to technical delays in the final programming phase, we need to change the start date to March 15, 2021.  We apologize for the delay, but we want to ensure we have a successful transition to the new on-line enrollment registration process which will replace the paper packet enrollment process.

Dear Parents/Guardians:

We are pleased to announce the release of the Reopening Playbook for Parents. This document outlines our safe return to in-person instruction. Please review this “Parent Playbook” thoroughly by clicking here or copying and pasting this link into your web browser: https://indd.adobe.com/view/0476af62-e46a-44d1-9348-5fc8660c582b

As part of our agreement with Chula Vista Educators, which is the bargaining group that represents teachers, our District will reopen to in-person instruction starting with a “hybrid” instructional format—provided that all health and safety conditions are met. A key condition is that San Diego County return to the “red” tier as defined in the state’s tiered-level system. Our County is currently in the most restrictive “purple” tier. Our County will need to drop to an adjusted case rate of 7 or fewer new COVID-19 cases per 100,000 people—for two consecutive weeks—before we can start in-person instruction. As of this writing, there is reason for optimism that a move to the red tier is on the horizon, based upon the downward trend in adjusted case rates. Once that occurs, parents and school staff will be provided two-weeks’ notice before the start of the first day of in-person school to ensure adequate preparation.

Please note that the Governor’s updated guidance came out just days ago—months after we reached agreement with our teachers about a safe return to in-person instruction. Be reassured that our District is prepared for in-person instruction in a “hybrid” model with students attending either morning or afternoon sessions in order to minimize the number of individuals on campus at any one time. Parents also will have the option to keep their child(ren) in distance learning for the remainder of 2020-21 school year.

Camera Issues on Teams

Good afternoon!

Some of our student devices may experience camera issues while using MS Teams. Please note that this is a Microsoft issue and not a device issue. A device swap will not fix it. Our IT department is aware and working with Microsoft on a solution.

In the meantime, Mrs. Snyder found a workaround that might help for now. Thanks, Mrs. Snyder!
