The PTA Reflections Artist Contest is back. Categories include: Photography, Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music Composition, Visual Arts, and a Special Artist Division. The theme is “Within Reach”.   All entries are due by October 6.  All students who participate will receive a NO HOMEWORK PASS good for one assignment.

Join the Birthday Book Club!  For a $10 Donation, choose a book from the special Birthday Book Club section in the school library and be the first to check out that book.  A book plate with your name will be placed inside the front cover of the book and your book club photo will be taken for the yearbook and the library book club member wall.  Forms are available in the school library or school office.

September 4 – NO SCHOOL/LABOR DAY

September 6 – 14 Support The Fall Book Fair before and after school during Parent/Teacher ConferencesFriday, September 8 is a special Bookfair Western Day!  Come dress-up like the wild west!

September 6 – Family Dinner Night at Panda Express from 11:00 am – 8:00 pm.

September 7 – 14 Parent Teacher Conferences begin. MINIMUM DAYS-Dismissal Times (K-1:30 pm and 1-6 1:45 pm). A Spirit Wear Blowout sale and Anniversary tee-shirts will be available for purchase in front of room 401 after school during Parent/Teacher Conference week.

September 8 is the Family Drive-In Movie/Campout Night. The movie will start at sun down and is free.  Make your own car or vehicle out of cardboard or other material and pretend you are at a drive-in movie.   Every child who makes their own car (no pre-made cars) will receive a NO HOMEWORK PASS good for one assignment.  A taco truck will be available for dinner and a pancake breakfast will be available the next morning.  Those who are staying overnight to for the campout may arrive as early as 5:30 pm to set up.  Campsite spaces are $1 for PTA members, $15 for non-members. Campout & Movie Night Flyer 2017

In honor of our Anniversary Tile Order Form, tiles will be available for painting during Movie Night.  You must pre-order your tile.  The order form is in the school office and each tile is $3.00.  Tiles will be mounted on the columns at the front of the school.

We are making a video that showcases past and present members of the Wolf Pack. If you would like to be a part of this video or know someone who would please submit a 20 – 30 second video clip to Mr. Riggs at zachary.riggs@cvesd.org.  Make sure to introduce yourself, tell what years you were here and share a memory.  Please invite past members of the Wolf Canyon Family to our Anniversary Celebration on November 7 from 9:00 am – 10:30 am.

Girl Scout Troop #6144 will be collecting plastic and aluminum CRV recyclables, at Movie Night/Campout. Please bring your recyclables and help our local Girl Scout Troop teach their goal of visiting California’s Joshua Tree National Park. A special THANK YOU to the following parents who have volunteered to serve on SSC:  Jacqueline Grant (Chair),Lisa Gomez (Vice- Chair), Debby Bryan (Parliamentarian), and Tanita Butler.  ELAC: Maricela Elizalde (Chair), Miriam Rivera (Vice-Chair), Andrea Vazquez (Secretary), Katia Padilla (DELAC), and Jieun Yoon (DELAC alternate).

We have need of two more School Site Council representatives.  Therefore we are holding an additional election to fill these spots.  Please stop by the office this week to cast your vote on the SSC extra ballot.  In addition to the one person on the ballot,  a write-in option is available for anyone else who might be interested in serving.  We need one person who is able to serve as the District Advisory Council (DAC) representative.  The DAC representative is responsible for attending the DAC/DELAC meetings at the district office one Tuesday a month from 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm.   For more information call the school office.

Monday, July 31 – Visitors and Volunteers may begin coming onto the campus.  If you do not have a signed Volunteer Agreement and current TB clearance on file you will need to do this before you can begin volunteering.  All visitors and volunteers are required to show identification and sign in to our Raptor system when coming on campus.

Monday, July 31 – Run 4 Fun begins. Students may walk or run the track each morning starting at 8:00 am and received prizes. Parent Volunteers are NEEDED.

Wednesday, August 2 from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm is Family Dinner Night at Chipotle located at 2290 Otay Lakes Road in Chula Vista.  Be sure to bring the chipotleflyer.

Thursday, July 27 at 6:00 pm is Parent Academy Information Night.  The sessions are 20 minutes and will repeat a total of 4 times.  The topics include:

  • Visitor/Volunteer in-service (required for all volunteers on campus)
  • Campus Safety – What every parent should know.
  • Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) (for parents of students in grades 3-6)
  • What are SSC, ELAC, LCAP, and SPSA and how do they help your child?
  • General School Information (for new families to Wolf Canyon)
  • Testing – What does it all mean?
  • Achieve 3000 and Imagine Learning – How you can help at home.
  • PTA – Who they are and how do I get involved?

Representatives from  Family Resource Center and the Child Nutrition Services will be on hand to provide information and answer questions.

No changes will be made to class assignments in the first 3 weeks of school. If you would like to request a classroom change after that you may submit your request in writing with rationale as to why you are requesting a change. Changes will be considered only if space is available beginning August 7.

All Visitors and Volunteers may begin coming onto the campus July 31.  All folks who would like to volunteer ON campus must attend the Volunteer In-service Session during the Parent Academy Night July 27.

Those interested in serving on our school governance committees should attend the School Site Council (SSC) and/or English Learner Advisory Council (ELAC) session.  

Monday, July 31 – Run 4 Fun begins. Students may walk or run the track each morning starting at 8:00 am and received prizes. Parent Volunteers are NEEDED.

Welcome back to the 2017-18 school year!

Tuesday, July 18, 2017 from 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm meet your child’s teacher.  Kona Ice will be on hand and PTA will provide free Lumpia to everyone who stops by their table.  Also, PTA members will be on hand with membership information.  You do not need to be able to volunteer to be a PTA member.

For families who have children registered for the YMCA childcare before and after school there will be a Meet and Greet from 3:00 pm – 5:00 in the YMCA room.  For information about YMCA Childcare call 619-421-9622 ext. 

The First Day of School starts at 8:45 am on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 and is a Minimum Day.

  • 8:45 am – All students GRADES 1-6 should report to their classrooms for the first day.
  • 9:00 am – All kindergarten students and their parents go to the auditorium at 9:00 am for a Kindergarten Orientation. Kindergarten students are dismissed to go home with parents after the orientation (11:00 am).
  • 1:45 pm – All students GRADES 1-6 are dismissed.
  • PLEASE EXPECT TRAFFIC DELAYS ON THE FIRST DAY.

Thursday, July 27 at 6:00 pm is Parent Academy Information Night.  The sessions are 20 minutes and will repeat a total of 4 times.  The topics include:

  • Visitor/Volunteer in-service (required for all volunteers on campus)
  • Campus Safety – What every parent should know.
  • Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) (for parents of students in grades 3-6)
  • What are SSC, ELAC, LCAP, and SPSA and how do they help your child?
  • General School Information (for new families to Wolf Canyon)
  • Testing – What does it all mean?
  • Achieve 3000 and Imagine Learning – How you can help at home.
  • PTA – Who they are and how do I get involved?

DROP OFF AND PICK UP IMPORTANT INFORMATION
1. Drop off and pick up students only in the front of the school and not the bus loop.
2. If you must leave your car, park in the parking lot and not the drive through zone.
3. Please do not bring animals including dogs on campus at any time – this includes arrival and dismissal.
4. Please do not park in RESERVED spaces.
5. Please wait in the courtyard at the front of the school to pick up your child.  For everyone’s safety Do Not Go to the classrooms.
6. Please keep the front gate entryway clear.
7. For parents dropping off children at the YMCA during the morning Olympian High traffic you may move the cones at the entryway and place them back.
8. Students must walk bikes, hover boards, and skate boards on side walks.
9. Students not picked up by 3:25 pm (1:55 pm on minimum days) will be escorted to the office, sign in and need to be signed out by the person picking him/her up.
10. For everyone’s safety BE PATIENT, KIND, and CONSIDERATE.

Thursday, June 1 School Picnic – Parents are invited to come eat lunch with their child during his/her regularly scheduled lunch time. Younger siblings are welcome but must be supervised as this is during student recess.  Our cafeteria will be serving hamburgers and hot Dogs Picnic-BBQ Flyer .

Thursday, June 1   Yearbooks will be delivered and students may get them signed throughout the day.  Students MAY NOT sign on each others bodies or clothing.  We have a few extra Yearbooks in the office available for $50 cash only – first come, first serve.

Friday, June 2  6th Grade Promotion/LAST DAY OF SCHOOL.   6th Grade students may go home after the promotion ceremonies.  Balloons will not be allowed in the auditorium.

As you are aware, our school community recently took part in an online learning process called Thoughtexchange to help inform our priorities. We’ve reviewed your thoughts and now want to share the results with you.

Do you have a child in Grades 3-6 who might benefit from a math summer review?  This program is run by a retired teacher and is tailored to your child’s grade level needs.

Another way to fight the summer slide is to have your child use Dreambox Math during the summer break.  Have them access their account to keep their edge over the break.

Students will be able to access Achieve 3000 over the summer! Students can continue to read articles and complete activities so that they’ll start the new school year with an edge! During the summer, complete 40 activities with a first try score of 75% or more on each, and you’ll automatically be entered into a raffle to win an iPad mini! It just takes “One” music download to help the District’s Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) department. For each .99 download of the Mike Cothrine song, “One,” our VAPA department will receive 50 percent of the proceeds. A 30-day campaign started on Friday, May 19 to encourage CVESD families to download the song from iTunes. The proceeds will help fund the purchase of art supplies, costumes for theater productions, materials for props and sets, and music supplies.  “One” Music link

Wolf Canyon will have its 10 year anniversary next school year. If you are interested in being a part of the planning committee to organize something special for next year, there will be a brainstorming meeting June 5 at 1:00 pm in the school office.
